EMDR Therapy as a Transdiagnostic Approach
Within mental health there is a shift from a diagnosis-based system to a transdiagnostic model. In this webinar series, EMDR therapy online is proposed as a transdiagnostic intervention that can overcome challenges in the current system.
Focusing on delivering client-centered care.
Learning objectives
Why it is helpful to understand mental health difficulties from a transdiagnostic framework.
How to conceptualise cases using a transdiagnostic, AIP approach.
How to use EMDR therapy as a transdiagnostic intervention.
The participants will learn:
Understanding EMDR Therapy as a Transdiagnostic Approach
EMDR Europe Research & Practice Conference 2023
This presentation will explore the benefit of a transdiagnostic approach when working with psychopathology. Further, it will demonstrate why EMDR therapy, and the AIP model that underpins it, is an appropriate transdiagnostic approach.
EMDR for Depression - an update on the evidence
EMDRAA 2021 Conference: Building Better Lives
In this presentation I will:
- Report on my recent paper reporting on a meta analysis of research investigating the effectiveness of EMDR as a treatment for depression, including the comparative efficacy with CBT;
- Describe the importance of understanding the AIP model when working with clients from a range of presentations; and
- Share my clinical experience of working with individuals with depression in the absence of PTSD.
Is exposure always required?
APS Unpacking Trauma Symposium
There has been discussion about the most effective approach to treating trauma. At the heart of such discussion lies the question of whether exposure to traumatic intrusions and memories is necessary in the treatment of clients presenting with PTSD. This panel will discuss the evidence for and against exposure therapy, while reflecting on research that helps illuminate when exposure therapy may be indicated and when other approaches should be considered.

EMDR: Latest research and future directions
Since the first paper on eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) was published by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, there have been more than 30 publications investigating the efficacy of EMDR for individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In addition to this, especially over the last decade, extensive research has been conducted evaluating the efficacy of EMDR as a treatment for a range of disorders including depression, anxiety disorders, addictions, and eating disorders. In this presentation, Sarah will provide a critical summary of the current literature, focusing on relevance for clinicians looking for guidance in their clinical work.
